A Conversation with Judge McGee

Judge Linda McGee has served for 16 years as a judge on the North Carolina Court of Appeals.  She is the second most senior judge on the Court and the longest-serving woman judge in the history of the Court.  She has authored more than 2,000 opinions and helped decide more than 6,000 cases.

Judge McGee brings her 16 years of enthusiasm to the bench, along with the strengths that come with experience and integrity.  Her service on the Court of Appeals is distinguished by two qualities:  she is fair, and she follows the law.

Before beginning her service on the Court, Judge McGee practiced law for 17 years in civil and criminal courts.  In 1995, she was selected to serve as a judge on the Court of Appeals, and since then has run two successful statewide campaigns to retain her seat.  Judge McGee recently announced that she would run a third statewide campaign to remain on the Court.

“I am excited and interested each time I begin to review a new case that comes before the Court.  Each case is vitally important to the people involved, and in each one I carefully consider the issues, including facts, legislative intent, and precedent case law,” Judge McGee said.

“The Court of Appeals reviews perceived wrongs, and if they are indeed wrongs, the Court can help to right them.  Part of my job is to help ensure that the judicial process works well for everyone who comes to the Court, and that the integrity of the judicial process is protected.”
